Leaving Cert French Oral
The Oral exam represents a big portion of the exam and deserves your attention – good preparation will pay off. The fact also that the Oral exam is at the end of March means you can happily enter the written exam a few months later with those hard earned marks in your pocket
There are a few simple tips that will hopefully help you with the oral. We will look at the document preparation at a later stage but in this blog I want to talk about some of the simple questions that you could be asked. They are many and varied – so you simply cannot ‘learn’ them all off by heart. You will need to understand questions that, like in English, will start with: who, when, where, how, why…..?
You might not even grasp the full meaning of the sentence but start by catching the first word in the sentence. Let’s look at a few simple questions :
Click on the arrow to play/pause the audio while reading the questions below:
Qu’est-ce que vous aimez comme musique? What type of music do you like?
Qui est le cadet/la cadette de la famille ? Who is the youngest of the family
Est-ce que vouz avez des animaux domestiques ? Do you have any pets?
Où est-ce que vous habitez? Where do you live?
Comment est-ce que vouz allez à l’ecole? How do you go to school?
Quand est-ce que vouz avez commencé à jouer le piano? When did start to play the piano?
When you have grasped these simple words you have half of the work done! Next week we will look at some more questions. If you don’t understand a question simply ask the examiner to repeat it – politely. If you are not sure how to say this tune in next week and we will cover this and other interesting topics.
